Alex (Alejandro) Tovar Betancourt was a kind and free spirited soul. He was a dearly loved father and grandfather who was called to heaven on August 31st, 2024. Born on June 2nd, 1955 in Mexicali, B.C., Mexico; he was the son of Salomon Tovar and Eva Betancourt. He was the second child born to a beautiful family, he was the oldest son of 14 children: Eva Marcelina, Alejandro, Blanca Estela, Sandra, Armando, Elia, Delia, Salomon Jr., Juan Carlos, Eliseo, Isabel, Alejandrina, Noemi, Jesus Eleasar Tovar Betancourt. Surrounded by so many siblings and cousins, family was always the most important to him. Growing up in such a lively household, this pushed Alex to be such a free spirit. In his early years he spent most of his time living life like a “gypsy”, enjoying life, vacationing and couch surfing to catch the next best concert. He was one of the great concert goers of his time, he's seen a variety of well known bands from Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Guns and Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Cage the Elephants to name a few of his favorites. Being the “wild child” of the family, he also had very many talents from an early age; He loved talking to anyone and everyone who would listen and he wouldn't stop. But this is the gift that he cherished the most, even as an adult. Being extremely outgoing and so talkative in the way most people remember him by and he cherished the most because that was his way to get to know you. Even his siblings knew from a young age that his talkative ways were not going anywhere, it was what made him fun and adventurous, kind and loving.
No matter where he was or what he was doing, his family always meant the world to him. Soon enough this wild child decided to settle down and had a family of his own. Alex was always a very caring and affectionate father to three beautiful children: Kimberly Alexis Betancourt, Kevyn Alexander Betancourt and Kathleen Alisha Betancourt . His Children meant the world to him and were his pride and joy. He was always very enthusiastic to share each accomplishment either child achieved. He would tell stories of their accomplishments as if they were his own. After raising 3 children, with many years of goals and accomplishments, his biggest accomplishment was being called “Tata” or Grandpa. Alex was blessed with the pleasure of being called grandpa on February 8th, 2023. His Grandson Jameson Alan Reyes was another light in his life. He always took great pride in being there for the birth of each of his children and he was also there for the birth of his grandchild. This brought him so much pleasure and joy. His time with Jameson was briefe, but he lived every moment to the fullest with him. He thought of him every time he went to the store buying diapers or toys or even trying to bring him snacks that Jameson wasn't old enough to eat yet.
His familia love extended past his family and often spilled over into the lives of extended family and friends; many friends whom he would consider family. He never forgot a birthday, a gift, calling on the holidays, taking a trip to visit or even sending a postcard from his work trips.
Alex was always full of fun, joy and excitement. He always seemed to make himself the center and life of any party. Over the years he earned many nicknames and it seemed as if he responded to all of them. From his love of Led Zeppelin, his family often called him Zeppelin, others knew him as Lex or just Alex and sometimes even Big Al. He was a kind and loving soul, who always worked so hard to provide for his family to ensure they had the best life they could. Many will remember him as a jokester, loud, crazy and fun, but his family will also remember him as a loving caring father.
God has many plans for us. He is the only one who knows when we will come to know him. In his final weeks of life, he learned and found a new love. It was learning about God. He seemed to have also found a new purpose and take on life.
2: Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
