Rev. Clifford James Carter was born on February 15, 1950 in Manhattan, New York to the late
Clifford Holgart Carter and late Sarah Carter. He grew up with his younger brother Joseph
Carter and cousin Donna Freeman in Brooklyn, New York until he joined the Air Force.
He served in the Air Force for 21 years as a Telephone and Data Circuitry Equipment
Technician and retired as a TSgt at Edwards Air Force Base in 1991. While stationed at Eglin Air
Force Base, Clifford met the love of his life Queen Elizabeth Carter and married her at the base
chapel on October 16, 1971. They were married for 54 years and had two children, LaShunda
Carter and Clifford James Carter III as well as two grandchildren, Julian Waterman and Jasmine
Waterman.
Rev. Clifford Carter was a faithful servant in his community. A devoted Christian and later
became a minister in 1987. He loved preaching the gospel, reading the bible, watching golf and
playing golf with his friends, photography, fencing, bowling with his wife, watching football and
basketball, loved getting up in the morning to talk to his children, and supporting the dreams of
his grandchildren.
In late 2018, Clifford was diagnosed with liver disease and received the news that he would
have between one day and six months to live. Thanks to the amazing care of Dr. Annamalai, Dr.
Taylor, Dr. Gutierrez, and many other health care professionals, Clifford received a liver
transplant at the age of 69 years old on March 9, 2019. His life was extended for nearly seven
years. He never stopped sharing his testimony on his second chance at life.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 54 years who he loved with his whole heart, Queen Elizabeth
Carter his two children, LaShunda Carter and Clifford
James Carter III, that made him proud everyday.
