Darrell Day Obituary

Darrell Douglas Day born September 3, 1955 to the union of King Solomon Day and Jewel Maxine in San Bernardino, California. Darrell was the second of three children, he had an older sister Frances and a younger brother Derwin. On March 29,1964 King Solomon tragically was called home, Alfonso Windham became a father figure to him. Darrell's childhood was one filled with laughter and adventure, he would entertain himself by terrorizing the farm animals. He would use rocks to play dodgeball with chickens and ride cows just for the sheer entertainment of it all. You could often catch him out on adventures with his favorite dog, who he ironically named DOG.

In his teenage years he found a love for music, he learned to play the piano, organ, guitar, bass and drums.

Darrell's family was deeply rooted in church service, which is why he played in the music ministry, Darrell attended Rosamond High School, in Rosamond, Ca. from

1969-1973. Darrell joined many clubs while in high school and enjoyed playing high school basketball and football. Darrell participated in the "Stay in School

Program" at Edwards Air Force Base to prepare him for a career after graduation. During Darrell's senior year, he fell in love with Betty Graves and the two went on to marry in fall of 1974. Shortly after their union the two had four children DeAndre', Jamar, Dena and Donte'. As a proud father he was deeply involved in extending his musical knowledge to his children by teaching them the art and technique of making music. For many years Darrell coached little league baseball which he absolutely enjoyed, but his real claim to fame was his barbecue baked beans , smothered potatoes and his delicious pineapple upside down cake.

Darrell started his career as a tradesman specializing in masonry work, a skill he was taught early on by his father-in-law. Darrell was blessed with a job at Plant 42, he was an asphalt and concrete specialist. Later he was promoted to lead mechanic for the fire department, maintaining their fire hydrant vehicles.

Due to an unforeseen work related accident, he was forced to retire. After retiring, he stayed ready carrying a resume in his famous brown briefcase".

Darrell was a jack of all trades, he used his prior handyman skills by building block walls, painting houses, installing electrical wiring, putting up drywall and working on cars.

Darrell continued to serve God through music at True Holiness Church of God in Christ in Lancaster, Ca. and assisted with the music production for World Evangelist Morris Cerullo at various church conventions.

On the morning of March 14,2026, God called Darrell Douglas Day home. Darrell lived an amazing life, one filled with love and laughter, good times and bad and through it all he taught each of us something that life's short so enjoy every moment. He lived his life his way, on his terms with no regrets.

My Last Request

Please don't say that I gave up, just say that I gave in.

Don't say I lost the battle, for it was God's war to lose or win.

Please don't say how good I was, but that I did my best.

Just say I tried to do what's right, to give the most I could, not less.

Please don't give me wings or halos, that's for God to do.

I want no more than I deserve, no extras, just my due.

Please don't give me flowers or talk in harsh tones.

Don't be concerned about me now,

I'm well with God; I've made it home.

Don't talk about what could have been, it's over and it's done.

Just see to all my family needs, the battle has been won.

When you draw a picture of me, don't paint me as a saint.

I've done some good, I've done some wrong, so use all your paint.

Not just the bright and light tones use some gray and dark;

in fact, don't put me down on canvas, just paint me in your heart.

Don't just remember Good times, but remember some bad;

for life is full of many things, some happy and some sad.

But if you must do something then I have just one last request.

Forgive me for the wrong I've done, and with the love that's left...

Thank God for my soul's resting,

Thank God I've been blessed.

Thank God for all who loved me,

praise God who loved me best.
