With profound love and heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mozelle Floyd Hicks, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by the love of family and friends. Mozelle Floyd Hicks was born on November 24, 1934, in Wharton, Texas, to Lillie Mae and Charles Floyd. She was the third of nine children born into a close-knit and loving family. At an early age, Mozelle accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and her unwavering faith remained the foundation of her life.
Mozelle attended Boling High School in Boling, Texas, graduating with the Class of 1953. Committed to education and personal growth, she continued her studies at Wharton County Junior College in 1956; Trade Tech in Los Angeles, California, in 1960; Fremont Trade School in 1961; and St. Stephen Education College in 1978.
A woman of extraordinary determination and resilience, Mozelle worked diligently to provide for her family. She was employed by McDonnell Douglas for nine and a half years as an electrical installer and later continued her career in the aircraft industry with Lockheed Corporation for nearly five additional years. Although she achieved much professionally, she never let go of a dream she carried since her high school years in Wharton, Texas to become a mortician. In 1964, Mozelle relocated to Sun Village as a single mother devoted to building a better life for her five children. Along her journey, she opened not only her home but also her heart to many foster children, providing love, guidance, and a safe place for those in need. In 1981, Mozelle married Willie D. Hicks, and together they shared a loving union until his passing. Through perseverance, faith, and hard work, Mozelle fulfilled her lifelong dream when she and her husband opened the doors of Hicks Mortuary on July 9, 1988.
Mozelle was the true definition of strength, compassion, and generosity. She worked tirelessly to care for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always placing the needs of others before her own. She possessed a heart of gold and would willingly give her last to help someone in need. To know Mozelle was to experience kindness, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her favorite saying, “I won’t complain,” reflected the grace and humility with which she lived her life.
Though she will be deeply missed, the love, wisdom, strength, and legacy of Mozelle Floyd Hicks will remain forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
