“SONNY BOY”
“All saddled up and ready to go”
Starting Gate: On December 27, 1939 an awesome baby boy was born in Hallettsville, Texas (Lavaca County) to the proud parents of Namon and Luiza Adams. Raymond was the sixth child born to this union, his siblings was Lucille, Lela, Namon Jr., Minnie, and Ethel Mae. Raymond’s father nicknamed him “Sonny Boy” and he carried that name thru out his entire life.
First Turn: Raymond and his family relocated to Kerrville, Texas in 1942, where he and his siblings received their formal education. Raymond was a proud student of Doyle High School class of 1956.
Furlong: In his quest to move forward, he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1962. His move was marked by the death of the famous actress “Marilyn Monroe” who died while he was en route. He settled in the Los Angeles area and was later joined by his sister Ethel Mae.
Place: To use the values placed in him by his parents, Raymond began his quest for employment to support himself. He worked several odd jobs until January 15, 1965 when he was hired by Avis. His strong work ethic made him a most valuable employee. He was always willing to be a team player and to share his knowledge with those around him. His engaging and unrehearsed sense of humor and genuine empathy and strong sense of responsibility and duty was the essence of who he was. He preferred to live by example in mentoring and nurturing. His Avis family was a very important part of his life. He worked for this company over 50 years. He reluctantly retired in March of 2015.
Across the Board: Raymond loved people and had many friends. He enjoyed communicating with young and old no matter what their background. One of his favorite pastimes was the sport of horse racing which lead him to Hollywood Park, Santa Anita, Lancaster Fairgrounds, Del Mar, just to name a few. He also loved to play dominoes and watch his favorite NFL team the “Dallas Cowboys.” He cherished his time with his family and friends so he would take road trips to Texas, Georgia, Florida, Mexico, and Las Vegas. He loved having a good time and visiting other places.
All – Out: Responsibility, commitment to his family as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor, and friend was so important to him. His desire to pass on family morals and traits to the next generation was his goal. The family values that he and his siblings received from their parents was to always be supportive of each other, love unconditional, and to know God as your Savior.
Home Stretch: Raymond ran the race that was put before him, asking God for help and strength along the way. Recognizing his task that he was assigned to build character, responsibility, and commitment into the lives of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and lives that he touched. To see the fruit of his labor gave him great Joy. To be the recipient of the compassionate care given to him by his wife Glenda, son Trevon and many others helped him to finish his course in PEACE. He left a Legacy of “Love & Commitment”!
HE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT AND HE FINISHED HIS COURSE
